VARC Responds to Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez' Negative Slant Against Van Tran and the Vietnamese American Community
News - Press Releases

Regarding Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez' recent negative statement about the Vietnamese American community:

The Vietnamese American Republican Coalition (VARC) rejects Congresswoman Sanchez's assertion that the Vietnamese and Republicans are trying to "take away" her seat.

It is, in fact, the American people's seat, and it is clear that the citizens of California are eager for a new representative who is dedicated to creating jobs, not inciting racial divides and conflicts among communities of America.

Candidate Van Tran is focused on bringing the community together to get Californians and Americans back to work, and we support him in his efforts.

(Annandale, VA) – The Vietnamese Americans for McCain-Palin Coalition today announced its endorsement of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for President of the United States at an endorsement rally in Falls Church, Virginia.

“Senator McCain has been a loyal friend of the Vietnamese people and our community in the United States,” said Shandon Phan, National Co-Chair of Vietnamese Americans for McCain-Palin.  “This special friendship dated back to McCain’s years of service as a young naval aviator fighting for freedom and democracy in Vietnam.”

“Vietnamese Americans, however, are not single-issue voters.  Our coalition members came from all walks of life but unite in our common belief that Senator McCain is the most qualified to lead our country.  From government reform to immigration reform to Iraq war to detainee policy, Sen. McCain has shown the courage, temperament and judgment of a great leader,” said Phan.

(Falls Church, Virginia) The Vietnamese Americans for McCain-Palin Coalition today hosted a Voter Registration & Outreach booth at the Mid-Autumn Festival inside Eden Center, a Vietnamese community hub in Northern Virginia.

The Mid-Autumn festival is a traditional Vietnamese celebration of abundance and togetherness.  Despite hard rain in the morning, thousands of people gathered at the popular shopping center to celebrate this joyous festival.

The McCain-Palin booth attracted so many visitors throughout the day that volunteers worked non-stop and some did not even have a chance to grab their first meal until 6pm.  Many people wanted to discuss issues and find out how to get involved, while others simply wanted to send their best wishes to the McCain-Palin team and provided the McCain volunteers with refreshments and words of encouragement.

By 6pm, over 800 fliers and 250 stickers were given out.  The volunteers left Eden Center, exhausted but obviously proud of their effort.
